Davao City homes up in flames
On the morning of December the 9th, 2011, sometime between 9:15a.m. and 9:35a.m., several houses in Davao City were caught in a two-hour raging fire. The fire was said to have struck the Davao Riverside, in Barangay 1-A, Poblacion District.
According to the City Social Services and Development Office (CSSD), 22 boarders, 123 homeowners, 141 renters and 236 home-sharers were listed as affected by the blaze. Many of the buildings consumed by the fire were made of light material, which caused the fire to spread rapidly. The nearby Magallanes Elementary School also was affected as well, which prompted the school to suspend classes. This damage, however, only affected three rooms with partially.
Victims took shelter in a nearby covered court behind the Grand Men Seng Hotel. There were no reported injuries caused by the fire.
